If I could march with you Ally I would. I pray America turns out in huge numbers. I know many things are happening but for me as an outsider it’s stunning there is no opposition leader to coalesce around.

It’s one of the saddest things that in all this time no one has really stepped into the center of this madness and forged a path. There are people I respect very much, but I am shocked at the lack of cohesive leadership and messaging and rallying and organizing. We were unprepared for this turn of events. Still too many people focused on their own interests and not thinking about the country and the people they represent. Anyway, I wish you could march with me, too, Alice ❤️ but I’ll be sending you love from Cali!

I feel better about life just knowing you're out there. ❤️

You made my night twelve different ways just by being you. Love you to Neptune and back. Much further than the moon.

That is a lot of love. Super ditto.

I have a sickening feeling the robots are all going to have that stupid blue steel Melania look, and “I don’t really care, do you” will be stenciled on their gross, unfeeling backs. 🤮

As always, you pulled all the threads together, made us a sweater to take out into the cold, and gave us some hope. You’re really fuckin good at it. xo

It is so weird to me that we’ve made films and shows about this for decades — the robots take over and kill us. I found an essay I wrote in 7th grade going through all the stuff at my mom’s. It was about a man whose computerized car killed him. I won the essay contest that year 🤣 Like, we know how this ends, and yet … we are building the robots anyway. Smh. Anyway, I am glad you found the hope I tried to thread in, because I am hopeful. All these emperors have no clothes and I think the sane amongst us see that clearly and don’t want these freaking robots, thanks. Human beings with their warmth and their flaws and their spark every day of the week. Melania can have the robots and the man she married 🤢👹 Xoxoxox

Thank you. As an outsider I’m really hoping that the mid terms shift the balance in a way that it makes it possible to start calling him to account for his transgressions. He needs to be stopped.

Ally Hamilton's avatar

That’s my hope, too, I could not agree more. Thank you for being here ❤️‍🩹

I know that your point was not about a defensive driving course. But just felt driven to remark that there are good, IRL, defensive driving courses. They will cost but probably worth every dollar.

Ally Hamilton's avatar

Marilu this makes me so happy! Thank you for letting me know! And I love that you felt “driven” to tell me, too, that was punny 😅😂

One of the good things about being old(er), or sapient, or just studying history, is knowing that none of what is happening right now is new. Things could certainly get worse (I hope not), but they will eventually get better. At least we have the example of hedge schools and underground schools, and many of us already hoard books just because.

I've spent the last three and a half years feeling angry or threatened or depressed or disgusted, and I really just can't sustain it. This morning, I converted a yahrzeit candle into a Catholic memorial candle - it's the fifth anniversary of my father-in-law's death, and we just weren't prepared. I did have one yahrzeit candle, so I removed the label, stood a small statue of Saint Mary next to it, and we are honoring and remembering Señor Cosme today.

This is the world I want to live in, where we can embrace each other's differences, and respectfully resolve conflicts. I am going to try my best to live that every day.

I believe that everyone protesting today also wants that, and I am grateful to all of you🧡

I think this is beautiful. And I totally understand and agree. I don’t think rage is a sustainable state to exist in as a constant. It’ll burn you right out. I have felt a bit lighter lately, for no discernible reason. Maybe it’s that we’re all still here, keeping on keeping on. Or maybe it’s that I know you can’t fight if you’re burnt out. Whatever it is, it’s better. The rage comes in spikes. I use it for good, try to use it as fuel to take action. Then I go back to appreciating hummingbirds and excellent people and making phone calls and volunteering. Anyway. Sending you a ton of love and deepest condolences for the loss of your Señor Cosme ❤️‍🩹🙏🏼

You are letting it all out on paper which is good for you and us. It seems we are going to have to be our own heroes. I did attend a fundraiser for Dr Annie Andrews this week. She is taking on Lindsey Graham for US Senate. She gave a rousing speech. My small town is having a march today. Keep hope alive!

Ally Hamilton's avatar

She seems really great, I follow her social media accounts and I think she has the right stuff 🔥

Wonderful writing on life and love Ally, and the astounding, crazy political situation. As I was reading, the sun broke out here. Sending you love, gratitude and solidarity from across the pond.

Ally Hamilton's avatar

I feel so grateful for people in other countries who recognize how many of us here are devastated, and would do just about anything to make the suffering wrought by this administration, stop. How many of us never wanted any of this madness in the first place.

I have friends in Australia who were saying they (the country) are almost out of fuel, and conversations are happening about even and odd-numbered license-plated cars alternating days they can be on the road. All because this man decided to wage a war no other U.S. president would touch. I don’t know if people are quite understanding the repercussions yet, but we are at the point where this one person and his merry band of reckless feckless cohorts are truly creating mayhem and pain everywhere.

Anyway, I thank you for your kindness and understanding, Karen, and for being here❤️‍🩹 I am so glad the sun came out, and I am hoping for sunnier days ahead for us all, soon 🙏🏼🙏🏼🌞

Here's to sunnier days ahead Ally. That man will not extinguish my extinguish my love for America, and Americans. 💛💛💛
