I still wake up sometimes, the dream-jolt of my brother's voice telling me my nephew was hit by a car. In that awful middle of the night way, grief takes on a weird dystopia. It stays present and alive in a way that feels different than past loss. You’ve laid it out here perfectly, I think. Our present griefs are being played out against the bleak backdrop of pandemics, the erosion of kindness and democracy, perpetuated by a government and a president (I use the term loosely) bent on cruelty. It’s a wonder most of us are still functioning at all.
Wish I’d known you then. But I’m here now, and we’ll get through all this shit together. Somehow. This piece is gorgeous. Finish your mf’in book. xx
I wish I’d known you then too, but I’m so grateful I know you now. And yes, I think it is that, it feels like this grief portal opened, or that sense of waking up and remembering again that someone is gone, except now it’s also our country that feels unrecognizable, even though none of this is new. These people are just bold and blatant about their cruelty. I am so hopeful we will all have better days ahead. This is unsustainable.
And I am working on the mother f’kn book, I swear ❤️☺️
That's so wonderful, Gayla. I'm so happy for you both. And yes, friend, I won't lie, the loss part is like nothing I've ever experienced. But I do feel I've opened and softened and can no longer "power through", and I think that's a good thing, so at least there's that. Hugs and love, I'm thankful you're here xx
Lump in my throat reading this…….you touched so much of my grief. Family loss and the sadness over what’s happening daily in our country. At my advanced age, I just hope I see it turned around for my adult children and grandchildren. Keep writing and speaking the truth Ally. ❤️
It does feel intertwined these days, doesn’t it? I hope we all see it turned around, Maureen. We must and we shall. Thanks so much for being here, I appreciate you ❤️🩹❤️🩹
This kicked me where it counts in the best way. xoxo!
Kimberley! How awesome to see you here <3 <3 <3 And I'm grateful for that xoxox
Trump has never loved and never been loved. Sad.
I think that's the case, David.

Still have my 88 year old mother and dread those days. Thanks for the love and honesty with which you write. ❤️
