as a cis white het male. you are 100% right it is shameful and i am ashamed that we have failed to

protect and preserve the

marginalized groups in this country.

we have failed

to project women, we have failed to protect their bodies and their rights as well as their and other peoples health care.

BUT, that was not enough. we had to further shift the distribution of wealth, already at historic inequity even more by literally ribbing poor, elderly and marginal groups in this country of health care, food, education and health and life saving

medications to give rich people even more

money. financially i benefit, but it is beyond wrong. we have damaged democracy beyond recognition and very likely destroyed permanently. it is worse than sad. it is devastating and it is getting worse every single day. where the hell will we be in another

3 1/2 years?

This is my fear, too - where we will be. I think the thing that has surprised me is that I genuinely believed more people cared about our country, the Constitution, democracy - even with all of our flaws and all the work left to do. I just did not think so many people would be willing to burn through our checks and balances and bend the knee to this madman narcissist and his minions, and for what?

And when I say all this, I mean I thought there would be more Republican senators and congresspeople who cared and would uphold the oaths they took. And more people - regardless of party - who would fight like hell. That’s the part that is so unbelievable to me, and so sad. Thank you for your comments, Craig, it really helps to hear from other people feeling this despair and outrage. At least we know we’re not alone. There are so many people feeling this way. Thank you for being here, hopefully somehow we will turn things in a better direction. Some way.

Thank you so much, Lynn. How we have not ratified the ERA is another thing that is just beyond the pale. Appreciate your comments very much 🤍

Ally, I just want to thank you for consistently writing about the hard things… It's not easy but it's SO vital that we keep talking about it. I nominated you for a Sunshine Blogger award. While it's typically given to “uplifting” bloggers, I know too well that it’s difficult to be uplifting when the world is chaos. We need that sunshine, now more than ever. What you're doing is brave and incredibly important. Hugs🩷

That was so kind of you. I can’t imagine winning an award for being uplifting these days (I do try to at least sprinkle in some gallows humor or seething sarcasm lol), but I really appreciate this and you so much - and I thank you. I long for the days when we are all under sunnier skies, that is for sure 🌞 Thanks for bringing a little sunshine to *my* day 🙏🏼

You're so very welcome, Ally! Every time I write anything but fiction, I end up pulling myself into a very dark place, as that's just how deeply it affects me. That's a big part of why I haven't been posting much these days and working on my novel instead. I’m thankful for those who have the ability to write about this country and the inner strength to not let it consume them… so I'm thankful for you!🩷

Nothing should shock me anymore… but I too, am shocked that more people aren't standing up and fighting.

I was talking to a friend who attended a fundraising event for Hakeem Jeffries, and people were asking him - like, on the level, what is going on with republican senators? Why aren’t more of them fighting back or saying no? And he said they don’t want to be primaried, they don’t want to lose their jobs, and the potus threatens them. So it’s all self-preservation I guess, but you’d think some of them (enough of them) would realize if they banded together they could stop this administration in its tracks - and he wouldn’t have that power over them. Which means they’re knowingly putting self-interest over the good of the people and breaking the oaths they took to uphold the Constitution. I get being scared and worrying about how you’re going to feed your family, but if they got together they could do the right thing all the way around. I suppose an environment like that does not engender a lot of deep friendships and solid trust.

And you're right about the lack of trust among them. Too many lying backstabbers.

Yes... Banding together is exactly right. Have they all forgotten that the people should never fear the government, but the government should fear its people. I know in that case it's more like government vs government… but united we stand, divided we fall… strength in numbers. Those phrases exist because its true. Arrrgh!! So frustrating!!
