Ally, I read this a few days ago but didn’t have the time or the heart for a proper response. But since much of what you wrote was very close to what I was already thinking and feeling, I imagine there are multitudes who are wrestling with these issues. I love the whole piece, but maybe am especially struck about the way we wall ourselves off from one another, “This is my chunk of real estate, get out of here!” (I just listened to a wrenching episode of NPR’s Code Switch, about the insanity on the southern border. God help anyone who needs asylum.) Anyway, thank you so much for expressing all of this. I wish you could write it across the sky. There are other ways to live on a planet. The window seems to be closing, but perhaps everyone with heart pushing together could reopen it. And just maybe, out from pain and darkness, light and love and sanity will bloom.
