Beautiful writing all the way through. I decided to start at the beginning — I am curious "No one criticized my mother. No one talked about the drinking. No one stood up for me. I was going to have to do it on my own."

Relatable, sad, and thank you for writing.

I too spent many days/nights in bar rooms yet with my Dad who forgot I was not old enough to drive but made me drive. Perhaps it is good I did.

Those of us with alcoholic parents should really have a secret handshake or something. But I feel like we always find each other, and I'm so thankful when that happens. Which is my way of saying I'm happy to connect with you, and grateful you're here. And I'm sorry for your experiences. It's a wild and scary thing to understand as a child, you're the one being tasked with doing the grownup, often scary things. I think the job later, when you're actually a grownup, is to figure out how to find that child-like joy again. Or at least that's part of the job :) Hugs!

Yes, yes, yes. I've been in recovery for ages, doesn't mean I have not passed on some wobbles but I sure do laugh allot and can tell the hard story sometimes funny - I think that means we have a winning handshake. Glad to meet you!
